10 Inexpensive Ways to Update Any Room

Have you ever wanted to make changes to a room, but don't necessarily have the funds to make a drastic change?  Here are 10 inexpensive and easy ways to transform any room!
  1. Refinish a chair- Go to yard sales or thrift stores and pick up an old armchair or a woven chair and reupholster it. You can really make this a statement piece to add to any room. Pick fabrics with bright colors or fun designs. There are many tutorials on how to reupholster a chair yourself. I just recently did this to an old wingback chair. I purchased my fabric (Duck Print) from Hobby Lobby. Duck Print fabric is the way to go! It is much cheaper than any of the other upholstering materiel and quality is just as great. Here is a link I found for instructions on how to upholster your own chair Click here!
  2. Add a mirror- This is extremely simple and can make any room seem spacious. TJ Maxx, Marshalls and Ross have really cute and affordable mirrors. You could also get one from a yard sale or thrift store and repaint the frame yourself!
  3. Gallery of small frames- You can do a gallery of family photos, fun fabrics or even just the frames themselves without the insert! Very simple!
  4. Paint inside of bookshelf- This is a great way to add quick color to any room for only a price of a pint of paint.
  5. Create Accent wall-This is very easy to do and can drastically change any room! Pick one wall in a room and paint it all one color.  Another idea is to use wallpaper instead of paint.
  6. A Simple Wreath-  I have made many wreaths in my day and all of them were extremely simple. Go to your local craft store and check out the plank wreaths. Then hot glue anything you would like on it! I have done fake flowers (just cut off the stems), fabric ribbon (such as burlap), bows and Letters and numbers.                                        When I was in college and had roommates, I made each one of us one for each one of our bedroom doors with the initial of each girls first name glued on. You could also glue on numbers of your address to the wreath for a fun look for your front door!
  7. Old Door or Window Pane- I absolutely adore the country chic look! Make a day out of antique shopping and you will find some really great accent items! A neat idea is to get an old door or window pane. You can repaint it a fun color (I love Teal) or even keep it in its original state!
  8. Accent Pillows - Add one or two fun pillows at each end of your couch. Quick and Easy!
  9. Update your Light Switch Covers and ceiling fans - This can completely update any room.
  10. Wall Cord Covers - I have seen these at Walmart and Target. I'm sure there are more stores that have them.  They cover up your cords, such as television cords, and just stick on to your wall! These are great for mounted televisions!
I hope you find these tips helpful! If you have any additional ideas on how to spruce up a room while staying on budget, I would love to hear them!
